Texas Swim Meet Results

TISCA recently submitted a proposal to the UIL committee to increase the number of qualifiers to the Texas High School State swim meet to 24 total qualifiers. The changes included 2 automatic qualifiers from each region to the state meet and then 8 additional call-ups. The final vote as to whether this will be adopted will happen at the October UIL meeting. If passed, these changes will go into effect for the 2016-2017 swim season. I like the changes because having more swimmers at the state championships is always a good thing. But, I'm not quite sure that having 2 automatic qualifiers from each region is the best solution. I would have asked to just have 1 automatic qualifier like it is currently, and then have 16 total call-ups. I believe that having 16 call-ups will make the meet more competitive than having 2 automatic qualifiers from each region.
